Therefore, say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Return to Me,” says the Lord of hosts, “and I will return to you,” says the Lord of hosts. Zechariah 1: 3 (NKJV)

Since the pandemic began, people have had different emotional and sociological responses to the situation. However, the Word of God assures us that because we have been transformed by faith in Christ, we are also preserved by His grace. Therefore, we can be confident that we are coming out of this situation transformed and preserved. We must not forget that although God did not cause covid19, He is in charge of the universe and of our lives. It is also His desire that we emerge from this season stronger, equipped and properly positioned for the things He wants to do.

God has given us Jesus’s authority to make declarations that will be established, and so we know that having made this declaration, covid19 comes to a swift end in Jesus’s name! As God’s children, we therefore need to prayerfully position ourselves for life after the lockdown, as we remember that all things work together for good for God’s children (Romans 8: 28). When this is all over, may it be said of us, as it was of the disciples, that we are notably different and bold, because we have been with Jesus (Acts 4: 13).

The phrase “the Lord of hosts” (Jehovah sabbaoth) is mentioned thrice in our main Scripture reading, in order to emphasise this aspect of the Lord’s personality. It is a military term that speaks of the Lord who defends His people from every onslaught (Psalm 46: 7), and it emphasises that the Lord never loses a battle! This is why we know that as we respond to the Lord in intimate fellowship and partnership with Him, we will emerge from this season transformed and preserved! And He will place us in the proper position to enjoy and express His unique purpose for our lives!
