You are Significant in God’s Agenda

The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” The Lord shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion. Rule in the midst of Your enemies! Psalm 110: 1-2 (NIV)

Psalm 110 is a messianic Psalm that speaks of Jesus before His physical birth and manifestation on the earth. It shows that although the human ancestry of our Lord Jesus was from the line of David, David acknowledged Jesus, the Messiah, as God. This Psalm is recounted several times in the New Testament, in about 30 portions of Scripture. It appears as if the early Church noted the significance of Psalm 110, and made it a focal point for their meditation and enjoyment.

There are several things we should note in this Psalm, which will cause our hearts to rejoice and enable us live the full lives that God desires. Firstly, as king David was enabled by the Holy Spirit to see the Messiah, our prayer and our desire should be to see Jesus over and above the noise in our world. Secondly, the psalmist uses the style “LORD” when speaking of Jehovah as God the Father, and uses the style “Lord” when speaking of Adonai as God the Son, Jesus. Third, Jesus is seated at the right hand of God, and when we put our faith in Him, God made us sit with Christ, far above principalities and powers. Even though the enemies of Christ haven’t all been made His footstool yet, Christ in us is our victory, and He has given us assurances that make us joyfully anticipate His second coming. In response to this, we should live consecrated lives, knowing that God has made us kings and priests who are significant in His agenda.
