Transformed by Christ

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12: 1- 2 (NIV)

God’s goal of transformation is not for a select few in the Body of Christ, but for us all who have put our faith in Jesus. It is important for us to remember two major desires that God has. First, God desires to transform sinners into children of God who become members of the Body of Christ, as expressed in the concept of the “local Church”. Church is therefore not a social club; rather, it is an expression of God in local communities, through which He demonstrates His love and power. This transformation occurs when people put their faith in Jesus for salvation (Matthew 1: 21), and so God calls all believers to be preaching ones that share His love with others.

The second thing that God desires is for the local Church to be continually transformed as a collective that looks more and more like Jesus and brings God glory in the communities where they are based. So, for us who are believers already, God desires for us to be continually transformed. Receiving Jesus as our saviour is our entry point into God’s family, and as we yield ourselves to the Lord, He continues His work of transformation in our hearts.
