God is Faithful 2

I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself. Psalm 89: 1 – 2 (NIV)

In Church history, there were seasons when heresies were adopted in place of the truth of salvation in Christ alone, by faith alone, and through grace alone. However, God always raised up witnesses to the Truth. As a Church, we have received the message of righteousness as a grace gift, and we are committed to the grace of God as defined in the Scripture (which teaches us to live sober and godly lives). When we read the Psalms, we must therefore view the theme of righteousness as the gift of grace that Jesus gives to those who believe in Him.

Our main Scripture reiterates that God is true to His Word and His promises. He can be believed and trusted. God’s faithfulness is not based on our feelings, in the same way, that even if the Sun is not visible, it is still there. In Psalm 89: 3, God spoke to the Psalmist’s heart about the covenant He had made to the Psalmist’s benefit. Similarly, God has made a covenant with Jesus, which is to the benefit of all who believe in Jesus. The effect of this Covenant is that we are established in Christ, anointed by the Holy Spirit, and sealed with the stamp of God’s nature and authority. We can therefore trust God’s faithfulness without reservations.
