…To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ… by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Peter 1:1b and 4 (NKJV)

In the combination of growing in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus, we inadvertently discover God’s counsel for our lives in this new year, and we are empowered to develop and deploy it. As believers, we have already escaped corruption in life, and the Lord continues to separate us from all forms of evil and corruption in the world. Although there is fear and agitation in the world right now, Jesus foreknew it and the Bible is full of encouragement for us. This is why it is important for us to study, meditate on and pray the Word.

Jesus spoke about difficult times that the world would experience, in a way that resembles our current global situation (Luke 21:25). These days, no one seems to have answers, and peoples’ hearts are quaking in fear because the things we have relied on have crumbled and failed. However, the Lord Jesus gave us the answer in v28: “…Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near”.

We do not know when the world will end, but when we experience turbulence like we do now, we do not need to be afraid or perplexed; rather, Jesus says our response is to look away from the stress and look up! When we hear of Covid19 and its implications on people’s lives and businesses, we must look up and lift up our heads to Jesus, because there are open heavens over us! Deception, distress and distractions begin to fade as we look to the Lord.
