But the free gift is not like the offence. For if by the one man’s offence many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many. Romans 5: 15 (NKJV)

Because of Adam’s sin, we were all born as natural sinners, and we all deserved condemnation. However, God in His mercy, chose to lavish His grace on us. His mercy is what sent Jesus to the cross to be our divine substitute. His death addressed the sin-nature in humans that gives rise to sinful actions. And when we receive this truth, God changes our nature and declares us righteous. We can now be confident in our relationship with God, because it is not based on our actions, but on our new nature in Christ Jesus.

Grace is the gift of God, revealed through His mercy and imparted as life. Through grace, God has converted sinners into His “sons”, and made us all members of His Body. In this new nature, we now function in the image and likeness of God, as we were originally designed to (Gen 1: 26), and thus bring God glory.
