Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? Isaiah 53:1 (NKJV)

“For with God nothing will be impossible.” Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. Luke 1:37-38 (NKJV)

Since we started this series, we’ve studied the two questions that were asked in Isaiah 53:1. Seeing that the “Arm of the Lord” refers to the manifestation of God’s power, this verse questions us as to whether we really expect God’s power to manifest on our behalf. God’s “Arm” is only revealed to those who believe, and this was demonstrated in the response that Mary the mother of Jesus gave to the angel who announced God’s plans to her.

Angel Gabriel’s announcement that Mary would conceive a Child by the power of the Holy Spirit and without the intervention of a man, sounds impossible to the human mind. However, Mary submitted herself to the report of the Lord and it was so! For anyone to experience the “Arm of the Lord”, there must be an acceptance and belief in His report. For without faith, there is no manifestation.

The “report of the Lord” refers to the promises of God, detailed throughout the Bible. It includes over three thousand promises that God makes to His people in the Bible. It also refers to the leading of the Holy Spirit in specific circumstances, and it specifically refers to the (gospel) good news of Jesus Christ. To accept God’s report, the Bible defines faith (Hebrews 11:1), and we can summarise it as the attitude that receives what Jesus provides. Indeed, the believer in Jesus survives through believing in Jesus (Romans 1:17)! It is therefore necessary to develop and exercise our faith in Jesus, as this pleases God (Hebrews 11:6).
