The Power of Godly Perspective

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people. Ephesians 1: 18 (NIV)

Our identity in Christ and our perspective on who we are is EVERYTHING! Our heavenly Father has bestowed on us the identity of His righteousness. Jesus changed us and stamped a brand new identity on us when we put our faith in Him. In Daniel 1: 7, the King of Babylon changed the names of the young Hebrew men that his army had captured. Despite their changed names, Daniel and his friends still resolved not to defile themselves (v8). They must have drawn assurance from their deep-seated knowledge of their identity in God.

Our perspective also determines how we handle the attacks of the enemy (Psalm 73: 15 and 17). It was when the Psalmist decided to go to the house of God and to be led by God’s Truth that he gained perspective about things that had caused him depression in earlier verses. He then realised that God was at the centre of all things and that there was truth beyond what he could see with his natural eye, and this changed his mind-set. It should be our aim to gain a Godly perspective in every situation.
